Mixed Ages (newborn to four) Child development researchers recommend mixed-age groupings because it fosters natural, family-style learning. Our activities focus on adult/child interaction, so children of different ages can enjoy classes together. A sibling discount encourages full family involvement. Younger children can enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Any care-giver can bring the child - grandparent, babysitter, aunts/uncles, or parents. The whole family - adults and children under four - are welcome for this essential family music experience.
Every child's musical development benefits from early exposure to music and movement. Because the early months are so important, Music Together offers two options for babies. Babies nine months and younger can attend a mixed-ages class - free with a registered sibling. Babies up to 8 months may also attend the special "Babies Class" offered as a one-semester introduction to Music Together. The music activities and materials are specially designed for parents who want to learn as much as possible about music development in infants. Meet other parents of newborns and learn some fascinating music activities you can recreate at home with your baby. KIDS MUSIC (4-6 year olds) While still using the same outstanding music, KIDS MUSIC includes dramatic play, rhythm and dance improvisation, music and movement games, and individual/ensemble singing and playing. A relaxed, imaginative atmosphere encourages children to explore their love of music. Activities include continued experimentation with singing in tune and keeping a steady beat. Participation rather than performance is encouraged. Teachers work with individual skill levels and interests. Parents are asked to observe outside the classroom for portions of the class, allowing the children to have an autonomous experience. |
