Welcome!
Music Together® Celebrates

March 2010
This month is a special time to celebrate the joy of families
singing, dancing and making music together. Family music-making supports
children developmentally and helps form everlasting family bonds. Click here for
the
Sing with Your Child Month at the national website for weekly ideas for
singing with your child and more information.
What are Music Together® Classes Like?
You and your child meet for 45-minute
classes for ten weeks to experience original and familiar
songs, rhythm
rhymes,
movement activities, and instrumental jam sessions in tonalities and
styles from around the world. The instructor helps the adults understand how
to play and make music with their children in class and at
home. Class size is limited to twelve children.
Developed from research at the Center for
Music and Young Children in Princeton, NJ, this program is based on the
beliefs that all children are musical. The program encourages your child's
innate ability to sing in tune, create rhythms, and participate in
music making with joy and confidence. Adult participation, regardless
of your own musical background, is inspirational for children to develop
musically.

Informal Instruction
A Music Together class is not a 'music
lesson'. Children are given the freedom to participate as they choose and
according to their developmental level. The class experience is reinforced
by parent involvement, encouraging continued learning at home through
play.

Mixed Ages (birth to four) and
Special Classes

Educators have long considered mixed-age
grouping to be beneficial. Our activities focus on adult/child
interaction, so children of different ages can enjoy classes together. (A
sibling discount is available to encourage full family involvement).
There are also opportunities for babies classes (under 8
months) and classes for the older child (4-5 and 5-6 years of age.)

Positive Benefits
Music Together classes nourish a family's
efforts to create a rich and joyful musical environment at home. Each
semester, you will receive a a new song collection on CD and a
corresponding, beautifully illustrated songbook. Parents will gain a new
understanding to support their child's lifelong love of music.
Children also benefit in the areas of movement, communication,
socialization, and the family gains another common 'language' for
day-to-day interactions.
